Emma Cox

A lifelong equestrian with over 20 years of experience at Sydney’s Centennial Parklands, Emma Cox has dedicated her career to the patient art of retraining off-the-track Thoroughbreds. She brings every horse along herself, finding her greatest passion in the journey from a retiree's first ride to their debut in the show ring. As a true equestrian athlete who demands performance and style, Emma has been a genuine fan and long-time wearer of BARE Equestrian, making her a perfect and authentic addition to our sponsored team.

"I love being a BARE ambassador because it feels genuine. I’ve worn the brand long before any title was attached to it, so representing something I truly believe in makes it even more special. BARE understands the rider lifestyle; the early mornings, the long days, the highs, the setbacks and creates pieces that support us through all of it.

Being part of a community that celebrates hardworking riders and quality horsemanship is something I’m incredibly proud of. "

Quick Questions with Emma

I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT THIS BARE PRODUCT BECAUSE…

Tone Vanilla/Havana Performance Tights – they give such an elevated look while keeping that slimline, polished finish in the show ring. They’re flattering, functional and make you feel confident the moment you step into the arena.

MY MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IS...

I honestly can’t narrow it down to just one. Riding at Sydney Royal is my annual highlight, no matter where the placing lands. I love the whole experience, the atmosphere, the nerves sometimes, and the memories created with the people around me.

A true competition highlight for me would have to be the 2025 Equimillion Championships. My beautiful Rule Breaker finished Runner Up in the Show Horse section and absolutely worked the house down. He has been a tricky horse, so that moment lives in my head rent free. It is a reminder of what patience, belief and consistency can achieve and of the team of people who backed me every step of the way.

MY FAVOURITE EXERCISE OR TRAINING TO PRACTICE IS…

There are so many, but the core exercises that have been instilled in me focus on relaxation and encouraging the horse to truly come over their back and through. I can’t express how much this approach has changed the attitude of my thoroughbreds… and me! Keeping them soft, confident and feeling their best is always the goal.

A good friend once told me, “Know when to go and know when to slow,” and I now replay that in my head all the time. It’s simple advice, but it has shaped the way I train and the way I aim to present my horses in the ring.

THE LAST THING I THINK ABOUT BEFORE ENTERING THE ARENA IS…

I’m terrible… I’m probably saying to myself, “We’re fine, no one is going to die!” I get serious competition nerves. You’ll usually find me pacing near the float, not talking much, quietly running through everything in my head, including every possible disaster scenario, and trying to find my focus amongst all of that.

I’m working on managing it better, but ultimately the last thing I remind myself is to stay calm for my horse, breathe, and give them the best experience possible. They feel everything, so if I can centre myself, we’re already ahead.

BEST COMPETITION DAY TIP...

Somewhere in all the chaos, find a moment to be calm and remember your why. Thank the army of people who helped you get there, no matter the outcome or the ride. Your village is often small, so celebrate with it and truly enjoy the moment. And always thank your horse. It’s a huge ask to walk into an arena and be their best selves. It’s even harder when they feel our nerves or the pressure. Thank them, pat them, love them and fuss over them. It’s always worth it.

RIGHT NOW I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO...

The 2026 season. I’ve changed a lot, grown alongside my horses, and really focused on the training and the small details. The hope now is that the work we’ve done at home shows up when it counts and that we can make some meaningful gains in 2026.

As always, Sydney Royal is a favourite… placing or not. It’s an experience I never take for granted and one I never forget.

MY TOP 3 BARE PICKS ARE…

  1. BARE Winter Series – Mia Jacket - A staple in my wardrobe. It’s the perfect jacket to ride in, not too thick, easy to move in, and you feel comfortable without overheating. Ideal for those cold winter mornings at the stables.
  2. The Winter Tights - They are everything. Not just in winter either… I may be guilty of wearing them year-round! The fit is incredible, they’re flexible yet supportive in the saddle, and even on early morning starts they keep you warm without feeling bulky.
  3. AIRFLOW Carbon Brushing Boots - I’ve had the ultimate boot wreckers and still haven’t managed to destroy these. They’re durable, protective and look sharp. Paired with the Carbon Tech Bell Boots, you honestly can’t go wrong.
